Ghanaian Hip-hop signee, AJ
Nelson who was on tour in Togo for promotional purpose is finally
back.
The prolific rapper was in Togo from Wednesday, March 18th to
Saturday, March 21st with his management team to build international
relationships, promote his brand and establish a very strong fan base.
On
his return, Pulse.com.gh engaged him in an exclusive interview about his
tour, experiences and the way forward. According to the self-acclaimed King of
B/A, his tour was ‘sweet but painful at the same time.’ He explained by saying
“Togo was fun. It was sweet but painful.
It was painful because, it was
our first time in Togo so we had a hard time dealing with the people especially
when it comes to speaking of the French language. Apart from that, our stay in
Togo was beautiful, productive and we achieved our aim.”
AJ Nelson was an
immediate hero in Togo. He disclosed to us that, he was well received in terms
of promotion wise. “I was a hero in Togo. When I got there, most of the TV
stations described me as a ‘Ghanaian superstar.’ My pictures and videos were
shown on all the popular TV stations in the country including French based N TV
2” he said.
He further revealed that, he met Togolese
top stars such as Prince Mo, Black T, Kens and Mike Flings to collaborate with
them. He also made an attempt to meet Kora Awards winner, King Mensah but it
didn’t work out because Mensah was working on his new project.
Touching
on how well Hip-hop is doing in Togo as compared to Ghana, AJ said “Hip-hop is
bigger in Togo. I don’t want people to misinterpret my words but am saying it.
French people have in terms of their choice of music.
“While in Togo, I
spent five days without seeing any foreign videos on Togolese TVs. The songs
they play are all local music. The only foreign song you will listen or video
you will watch are Togolese internals who are doing well outside the country.
They love Hip-hop, Afro-pop, Soca and traditional music.”
He concluded by
saying “Togo is my new home and I will always visit there.”
AJ Nelson’s
“Smooth Live Sessions” returns this year with a lot of surprises to be unwrapped
on the night.
The show, which will take place at the Republic Bar in Osu on April 29 will see the Hip-hop star rock live alongside BBA Hotshots’ Kacey Moore, Luther, Qweci (Ded Buddy), Cabum, AJ Omo Alajah, Wiyaala, Black T from Togo and more.
