"Dumsor" is killing Ghana Movies - Nana Ama McBrown
Nana Ama McBrown a celebrited Ghanaian Actress who cuts across the Ghallywood and Kumawood sectors of the Ghanaian Movie industry has blamed heavily the current depreciating state of Ghanaian movies to the erratic power supply on going in the country.
In an interview with Studio360gh, the "Madam Moke" star describe the situation as a major factor preventing patrons of the Ghanaian movies from buying them.
Again, she says the it also expensive to be able to produce a movie since you have to spend more during production.
"Now a few facts in our movie industry going down is our storytelling, our screenplay. I wont condemn Directors because they make it perfect. Now one major factor that is really really really killing and bringing our industry down is the "DUMSOR". For our stories, we are working on and trying to develop. Now its a competition. Before, it was more of business and money but now its more of LEGACY; your name, making a mark in the industry. So basically its about Dumsor. Sometimes,no matter how bad it is, our fans are still in support. Dumsor is not helping us and everyone is now scared to release a movie. All because of Dumsor". ("Dumsor" is a local name given to the erratic power supply in Ghana)
Nana Ama McBrown said this in an interview with Studio360gh during the premiere of Love Regardless.
We further spoke to some movie producers on the issue. Our findings indicate that some movie producers owe the Cd production companies soo much. One of the Cd producers ARN out of the major three in Ghana is owed by several producers to a tune of over Ghc700,000.
According to our sources, it has now gotten to a stage where machines are getting broken down due to the "dumsor" and the production cost is also on a rise. This has made some of the cd houses demand for cash before services.
In the first week of April, two movies were released at Opera Square, one of the hub of Ghanaian movie distributors. The following week, our checks shows a rise to five but unfortunately, this week being the third, there was no single movie released.
