Musician cum Doctor, Knii Lantey Pays Tribute to World Music Group Osibisa

Ghanaian Singer Knii Lante born Nii Okunka Blankson who also doubles as a medical Doctor has urged Ghanaians to stop putting unnecessary pressure on our leaders to miraculously develop Ghana over a short period.

Knii Lantey who was speaking during an emotional rendition of Osibisa’s classic hit “Woyaya” on Sunday August 30, 2015 inside King Solomon Gardens at Dansoman in Accra, used the lyrics of the song to send his message across.

“We are going; heaven knows where we are going and we will definitely get there. Let’s stop putting pressure on our leaders. We need to learn how to crawl before we walk. Let’s stop pushing our leaders to do impossible things within a very short period. It took over 100 years for the greatest country in the world America to become a developed country so let’s be patient on our leaders. Yes! It will be hard we know and the road will be muddy and rough but we'll get there”.

Dr. Knii Lantey, without reference to any particular leader said we as Ghanaians should not just criticize our leaders but should also do our part as citizens to help develop Ghana. The Sunday night intimate performances was dedicated to Osibisa and the artistes on parade, backed by the Big Hills band, soared with reggae versions of several songs made popular by the world-famous Afro-rock band led by Teddy Osei.

The monthly Live Covers programme was initiated last July to, as Knii Lante put it, “promotes reggae and rebrand it.”

The first edition treated music by the late Michael Jackson and it went well. The night for Osibisa, however, was a mighty blast with Knii Lante, Ras Boomba, Ruth Williams, Habiba, Black I, Xali and AJ Lyricz in the house to acknowledge the great influence Osibisa has had around the world.

“We give thanks to Osibisa for paving the way and we follow.” That was how Knii Lante got proceedings off on a very entertaining evening full of cheer, drive and tight grooves. The various artistes performed Osibisa classics such as Welcome Home, Sunshine Day, Adwoa, Celebration, Dance The Body Music, Superfly Man, Coffee Song and Woyaya.
