CARE TV Shows the way to Quality Television

Ghana's migration to the digital world via television has still not taking full force but the Digital television platforms in Ghana today has made room for many more television stations to pop up.

In as much as many have called for more establishment of television stations, one fact that is missing per our survey of the majority of these stations is that fact of missing content. Many of these stations that have being established simply do not have the ideas and content to feed their viewers. Many of them have turned to foreign materials to feed their viewers from morning to evening. Others have also tuned their stations to religious platforms though the station was never set up for religious purposes and has never considered religious people as their market.

The most annoying part of all these "nonsense" is that fact of lack of monitoring by the people in these stations. For instance, a music video can freeze for close to 20 to 25 minutes and will still be on air. When it is restored, no one cares of the viewer and so will not bother to apologise for the technical hitch.

Though many of these stations are just feeding the public with "nothing" and operations seems to be "child's play", few are doing very well both content wise and monitoring aspect. One of these few station is CARE TV.

Located on the Accra - Aburi highway,  we visited them after our monitoring to see for ourselves that the faces behind the good work provided by this station. We visited them and had interactions with their General Manager and CEO.

Operating from a storey building beside the road, CARE TV have carefully and craftily designed programs that will feed the viewers with lots of education, entertainment and information. Though this station is less than a year since they started operation, they have really won the hearts of many viewers via the Multi TV platform.

From local content to a blend with foreign materials, Care TV is focused on 80% local and 20% foreign.
In an interview with the Manager Ricky Anokye, he indicates plans to have the station finally placed on the digital platform.

"We have plans to broadcast via the digital platform despite the many calls from our viewers. It is always good to listen to your viewers and respect their wishes. Plans are far advanced and very soon, we will be on the digital platform so many people can experience what television is really suppose to be. Currently, we stand for ENTERTAINMENT and so more of our contents will be driven towards that direction but it does not mean we don't do anything aside that. We have room for everyone because we believe everyone deserves that best. Care TV has come to stay and currently we have more programs coming up. We will soon show a program like "Blogger's Cafe" and the Sunday Gospel count down show." said Ricky Anokye.

Care TV is a channel on the Multi Tv platform.

I am not going to joke in Parliament – Kwame Dzokoto tells critics

Your authentic and entertainment news reliable blog, Studio360gh first broke this story but many did not believe until today.

Comedian and showbiz icon, Seth Kwame Dzokoto, says it is irrational for anyone to suggest that he cannot make any meaningful contribution in Parliament because of his work as a comedian.

The Actor cum Host of ‘Edziban’, a popular television show that mainly promotes Ghanaian cuisine, has been vetted and approved by the governing NDC in the Tarkwa Nsuem Constituency to contest in the party’s upcoming primaries on November 7.

Mr. Dzokoto’s sudden leap from comedy into politics has stunned many with some questioning his capacity and competence.

Some of his critics and opponents have questioned his capacity to contribute in Parliament, should he eventually win his party’s primaries and go ahead to win the elections in 2016.

But Mr. Kwame Dzokoto, who is currently the General Manager of Accra-based Pluzz FM, has told rubbished such assertions.

“I have heard somebody say that Kwame is going to Parliament; does he think we are going to do concert there? So I asked myself this; we equally have doctors in Parliament; does it mean they are injecting people or giving clinical services there? That is not the case; they are representing the people to ensure that the right things are done in terms of passing laws; so that’s the job I am going to do there” he emphasized.

In an interview with Citi News’ Western Regional Correspondent, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, he said his decision to go into politics is largely borne out of a genuine desire to give back to the people of Tarkwa Nsuaem.

“What I was doing in terms of entertainment or showbiz was also public service; but this is also public service on a different platform. This one is basically serving the people directly and they are going to give you a mandate to go and speak on their behalf. And they believe that I have the connections and links so I can easily lobby for things to get to them”.

“The fact of the matter is that, I started my radio career in Tarkwa and I believe that one day when I grow old posterity will judge me and they people will demand of me what I was able to do for them after they pushed me up to become a national icon. So I believe that if I can take this platform and fight for them it will be a nice decision”.

Kwame Dzokoto has only one contender in the primary with reports suggesting he is the favorite to win.

His popularity in the NDC  is unknown although he is widely known in the Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality.

If he wins the primary, he will face stiff opposition from the NPP’s candidate, George Mireku-Duker, a one-time MCE for Tarkwa-Nsuem.

The Tarkwa-Nsuem seat has been occupied by the incumbent MP for the constituency, Gifty Eugenia Kusi since 2004, but she lost the NPP’s recent primary to George Mireku-Duker.

Jackie Appiah to join Celebs with Clothing lines

According to Graphiconline, Ghana’s screen queen, Jackie Appiah, is planning to hit the fashion market with a bang in a manner that could overshadow her return to her favorite acting role after a long period of absence from set.

The gorgeous actress is set to launch her clothing line in November with the official opening of her shop in Accra, a new venture which reflects not only her passion for fashion but also gives an insight into her entrepreneurial spirit.

Already top name in acting, Jackie is extending her brand into the fashion industry with the Jackie Appiah clothing line which will be available at her boutique, aptly named Jackie Appiah at Dzorwulu, near the UBA Bank.

“I will be launching a clothing shop soon in Dzorwulu, Accra. That will be in November. My fans should stay put for that,’’ Jackie revealed during an exclusive interview with the Showbiz on Monday.

The new venture into fashion, according to the acress and philantropist, was inspired by her fans and a long-held desire to try her hands at designing her favourite clothes and make them available to her followers.

‘’My fans inspired me to enter into the clothing business. I see it as souvenirs for them. The love I get from them for my charity works makes me want to give them something back. They keep asking me where they can have my things to buy from in order to feel close to me,’’ she said.

For an award-winning actress and fashionista who plans to enter the real estate market, the decision to move into the clothes market comes as little surprise, and follows a line of business being pursued by movie stars such as John Dumelo (J.Melo), Prince David Osei and Yvonne Nelson (YN Closet) who have either set up clothing shops or established their own clothing line.

The boutique, which is already in operation stocks clothes from the Jackie Appiah label and other top brands and fashion accessories which reflect the actress’s taste and sense of fashion.

Jackie explains to Showbiz that she conceptualises the designs and sends them to Italy where her designs are made into “top notch” clothes for the market.

“I’ve always had the desire to enter into the clothing business but I wanted everything to be top notch. That’s why it took me a long time to come out,” she said to emphasise the quality of her clothing.

After taking time off to shoot new movies, Jackie looks set to return to our screens with new productions.

“I have been filming in Nigeria and Ghana. I have done two movies, True Lies and Stalemate, for Venus Films here in Ghana. Currently, I am on set for others in Nigeria, and very soon, they would all be out.”

The award-winning actress, who made her first on-screen appearance on the popular TV series, Things We Do for Love, in the late 1990s, has starred in countless movies, which include Princess Tyra, The Return of Beyonce, Pretty Queen, Perfect Picture among others.

Born in Canada to Ghanaian parents, Jackie is known for her leading roles in movies and has received countless number of awards and nominations, including Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for ‘The Perfect Picture’ and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the AMAA in 2007. She also received two nominations for Best Actress in a Leading role and Best Upcoming Actress at the AMAA in 2008.

When asked to throw more light on her intention of going into the real estate business, the mother of one, would rather not give out too much but said,  “the future is in God’s hands. Perhaps, I might say something but when the time comes, it might be bigger or lesser than I predicted. So, let’s leave everything in the hands of God. Meanwhile, my fans should expect my movies and clothing line out there very soon,’’ she added.
