GUBA Awards2015 launched in Ghana
The fifth edition of the Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards was launched in Ghana yesterday night at the British High Commissioner to Ghana's residence.
GUBA is a prestigious annual awards ceremony born in October 2010. The awards scheme is to celebrate excellence and achievement within the British Ghanaian community and also, the outstanding and valuable services provided to Ghanaians in the UK and Ghana.
Though the event was launched in London about a week ago, it all looked fresh with the Ghana launch. An event which was graced by lots of musicians and movie celebrities as well as the business community in Ghana.
The Ghana Launch according to organisers, the launch adheres to GUBA's aim of solidifying the relationship within Ghana and her citizens in the Diaspora. It aims to strengthen the relationship between the UK and Ghana and in turn, increase trade relations and development.
As part of the this year's program, the GUBA Foundation was launch and has her target of helping to develop the Jamestown community in Accra, Ghana.
This announcement was made by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Jon Benjamin at the launch.
This year's edition according to Mr. George Ameyaw, the PR Head for GUBA, will have only three categories to be voted for. Artist Extraordinaire, GUBA Humanitarian Award and GUBA Young and Talented Award.
"In celebration of 5 years of GUBA, only three categories are up for voting: Artist Extraordinaire Award, GUBA Humanitarian Award and GUBA young and Talented Award. Again, fourteen black awards will also be given out on the night as an acknowledgement for excellence".
The 5th edition of GUBA Awards was launch by a representative of the Tourism Ministry on behalf of the Minister who couldn't make it to the event.
The CEO of GUBA Awards, Dentaa appreciated the support the awards scheme has gotten from the British High Commission in Ghana over the years and also the support from the Tourism Ministry.
Ghana's female sensation, Rebecca Acheampong popularly known as Becca is confirmed to be performing on the night of the event.
The 5th edition of GUBA would be held in London on the 4th of July, 2015.
