2015 Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards Launched & Here Are The Nominees


The Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards, launched its 5th year and celebrations at the Luxurious Sunborn London, Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, ExCeL London E16 1XL.

GUBA, an organisation that has acknowledged and celebrated outstanding individuals within the British Ghanaian community over the last 4 years will host the fifth anniversary awards ceremony on Saturday the 4th of July 2015 at the London Hilton Metropole Hotel, 225 Edgware Road, London, W2 1JU.

In her welcome address while opening the evening, GUBA Awards Project Manager- Christine Addy said;

“The GUBA 2015 Awards ceremony will be our formal celebration of 5 years of service. This year, we uphold the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence’ as we reward trailblazing visionaries with years of service to our communities. “.

The event was hosted by the charismatic Ms. Afua Hirsch. - International broadcaster and currently the Social Affairs and Education Editor at Sky News while the Chosen Generation Choir entertained guests.

Amma Owusu-Afriyie, Project Manager for the GUBA Foundation, launched infant mortality and its prevalence in Ghana as the next focus of the Foundation for the next three years. Pledges were made to raise awareness, provide adequate funding and resolution. An appeal was made to the guests for assistance in a bid to reduce the rising level of infant mortality in Ghana.

GUBA’s launch was greatly attended by prestigious dignitaries including: Deputy High Commissioner (designate) to Ghana - Gavin Cook, Kofi Addo (Minister Counsellor for Trade and Investment at the Ghana High Commission in the UK and Ireland), Genevieve Awuku Boateng (ABN TV), Fred Blavo, (Practice Director at Blavo and Co Solicitors) and plus-size model Philomena Kwao (USA Based).

Speeches from the guest speakers: Kofi Addo, Fred Blavo, Philomena Kwao and Genevieve Awuku Boateng demonstrated the passion and unity that Ghanaians share across the world.

Mr Gavin Cook also expressed his commitment to strengthening the UK-Ghana bond stating:

“I am privileged to have the chance to enhance UK-Ghana relations and delighted to be supporting GUBA as they celebrate a fifth year of showcasing Ghana-UK excellence. I am looking forward immensely to working with the dynamic and passionate community they have established”

Nominations were read out by Mr George Ameyaw, Head of PR for GUBA, in preparation for voting which stared on the 1st of May 2015. Voting ends on the 28th of June 2015 and can be cast via: www.gubaawards.co.uk/vote. Two nominees will be eliminated on 30th May and two on 15th June 2015 in the Artist Extraordinaire Category, whilst only one will be eliminated on 30th May, from the Humanitarian category.
