CELEBS Vrs POLITICIANS: #DumsorMustStop: Focus on solving ‘dumsor’ and stop attacking celebs – Juliet Asante tells gov't

Ghanaian filmmaker, Juliet Asante, has called on Ghana’s leadership to keep their focus on “solving” the erratic power situation as it continues to persist.

The entertainment entrepreneur said it was “worrying” to find members of the government’s leadership making time to attack the celebrities involved in the #Dumsormuststop campaign.

“Instead of attacking those who ask for answers, it’s better to address the questions. That is what leadership is about. If you go on attacking them it means you don’t have answers,” she said on the Starr Entertainment News on The Zone on Starr 103.5FM.

Yvonne Nelson and her colleagues in the entertainment industry, Sarkodie and Lydia Forson have received a barrage of abusive attacks from members of the ruling government for starting the now popular campaign and organisng an upcoming vigil in protest of the situation.

According to the movie producer, “instead of focusing on the stars and what is happening, they should rather focus on giving us answers and solving the problem.

“In fact, if this problem was solved right now, then there wouldn’t be any vigil.”

Asante who said she was happy to see the Ghanaian people seek accountability from government, condemned officials and the section of the public criticising these entertainers, for suggesting the #Dumsormuststop vigil is politically motivated.

“This is a social issue and for me I think that it’s a shame that it is becoming a political issue, because it’s our responsibility to hold the government that we vote into power accountable.

“Commenting on it is in the right taste and addressing issues that we face is in the right direction and I think that any attempt to cower the citizenry is not a good thing and I think that for stars to take up that responsibility I think is a good thing,”

The Silver Rain director was in neighbouring Nigeria in the past week to promote the movie and said although she enjoyed the “warm” reception the Nigerian people gave her, she would not wish their power situation for Ghana.

“I am just coming from Nigeria and the light situation is a terrible situation… it’s amazing that country continues to function. You hardly have any light at all. And so if you look at that you would say that Ghana we are not in a bad place. But should we wait till we get there?”she asked.

She, however, cautioned the celebrities who are involved in the #Dumsormuststop protests to go about it “the right way so that it is not misconstrued”.
