Tigo Transforms Street Library Into Ghana’s First Digital Mobile Library

Tigo Ghana has taken a giant step towards digital inclusion for children in rural Ghana by outdooring its new Mobile Digital Library.

The project which is a partnership with Street Library Ghana, founded by its 2012 Changemaker, Hayford Siaw has the interior of the van beautifully fitted with tables and chairs and laptops.

It also has additional tables and chairs and laptops which can be set up outside the van to cater for additional children.

Explaining the rationale for the project, the Head of Corporate Communications and CSR for Tigo, Gifty Bingley, explained that Hayford was previously travelling around rural Ghana with hard copy books in his mini-van to encourage children to read.

“With this innovation we have taken the project a step further, we have digitized the books, they will also have a hands-on experience with the computers and the digital experience will be the same for every community we visit, she said.

The CEO for Tigo, Roshi Motman, encouraged other Tigo Changemakers like ‘Tech needs Girls’ and ‘IT4Teens’ to step up and partner with Street Library and offer ICT training in software and web applications for the children.

The founder of Street Library, Hayford Siaw, could not hide his excitement, he was grateful for Tigo’s continued support since he became a part of the Changemakers. “Children in rural Ghana will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this pioneering project. It will go a long way to support Digital Inclusion.

According to Hayford even though children in rural Ghana study ICT as a core subject, several of them have neither seen nor touched a computer. He looked forward to introducing them to the computers and going through the downloaded books.

Africa All Stars sing against Xenophobia. No Ghanaian Musician

A number of African artistes have come together to perform a rendition of the 1980s hit single 'We are the World' (USA for Africa) which was led by Michael Jackson.

The aim of the song, titled 'We are the World (Africa version), is to denounce the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa which has claimed seven lives so far.

Viasat1 News Online understands this is an MTN South Africa initiative in collaboration with Joyous Celebration, a South African music group.

The artistes, who according to the video make up Africa All Stars, are dominated by Nigerians and South Africans, with others from Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. They include Mafikizolo, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, MXO, Sean Tizzle, Kcee, Patoranking, Harrysong, Yemi Alade, Sfiso Newane, Banky W, among others.

Unfortunately, no Ghanaian musician was included.

Watch the video below:

"We Are the World" is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is one of the fewer than 30 all-time singles to have sold at least 10 million copies worldwide.

Following the devastation caused by the magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, a remake of the song by another all-star cast of singers was recorded on February 1, 2010. Entitled "We Are the World 25 for Haiti", it was released as a single on February 12, 2010, and proceeds from the record aided survivors in the impoverished country.

Fiifi Banson Quits Peace Fm

fiifi bansonCelebrated broadcaster Fiifi Banson, host of Peace Fm’s last afternoon show, ‘Ekwanso Brebre’, has quit the station after some 15 years of working with the Despite Group of Companies, NEWSONE has gathered.

Mr Banson is reported to have told his ‘Ekwanso Brebre’ team that he would be hosting his last show tomorrow, Friday 24th April, 2015, after which he would formerly announce his exit and gracefully bow out.

Though not official, it is now open talk among workers of Peace Fm, Okay Fm, Neat Fm and UTV that Fiifi would be bowing out this week.

Unfortunately, Mr Banson neither picked his call nor replied a message NEWSONE sent to his phone requesting to speak with him about his future prospects and the reason for his exit.
NEWSONE has gathered that management of Peace Fm has settled on a suitable replacement for Mr Banson and the ‘Ekwanso Brebre’ show would be entirely re-structured to increase its audience base and appeal.

Interestingly, his upcoming exit is said to have come as no surprise to many of his colleagues.
Before joining Peace Fm about a decade and half ago, Fiifi Banson worked with Radio Gold, also in Accra. He has a unique baritone voice pleasant to the ears, an excellent sense of humour and an enviable dexterity in handling the Twi and English languages.

Word going round says Fiifi Banson’s resignation from Peace Fm was to enable him focus on building his new television station, Platinum Sports, a 24-hour channel available on digital.
There are also speculations he may be heading to work with Kasapa Fm, one of the newest additions of the Excellence In Broadcasting (EIB) Group.

"Bolanita" is the best on air - Public Opinion

Anita Erskine and Bola RayStudio360gh took to the streets of Adabraka, Nima, Newtown and Kokomlemle to interact with radio listeners to have their opinion on the Anita Erskine and Bola Ray combination on the Starr Drive on Starr 103.5 Fm.

Many of the people we interacted with found themselves in the corporate entities and a few students.
The expression made by majority of these people showed the magic of Starr Fm is everywhere.

From our interactions, majority of the people described the combination as one move they really never thought would work when there were speculations but listening to the show from monday, they confess there is a new flow of fun and most ladies also say, "its a fair share of the cake for the women".
Read what one of the ladies we spoke said.

"My name is Mabel and l work with Busy Internet, well, intially, a friend told me about Anita Erskine about to join Bola Ray on the drive. I didn't like the idea because l didn't know how it was going to work out but listening to them since...errmmm...tuesday, yes, tuesday, l have fallen in love with "Bolanita"(posing with smiles and she mentions the new tag) the more. It is more fun and they are always sharing coca cola and prizes. I personally think Anita is great and radio is far better for her than tv".

Anita has really warmed herself well into the radio world soo far after 20 years absense with a super blend of herself and Bola Ray on the drive time show Starr Drive.
She started on monday but from the opinions expressed from the public when we stepped out, many have really falling in love with the "Bolanita" control.

We will be publishing the full audio soon for your own ears.

From Studio360gh.com we say good work than by the Starr team on the Drive show.

Agya Koo and Mr. Ibu can’t act any serious roles - Mr. Beautiful

Movie actor Clement Bonney popularly known in showbiz circles as Mr. Beautiful has said Agya Koo and Mr. Ibu cannot cast any serious role in movies except comedies.

“There are other actors/actresses who can never play any other role apart from the roles they are known for. For example, “Agya Koo and Mr. Ibu cannot act any other serious role in movies apart from comedy,” he said.

Mr. Beautiful disclosed this to Mike 2 on the Entertainment Hall Show on Adom FM, during an interview over the weekend which was to talk about why he is no more seen in the acting business.

He added that if some producers in Kumasi have decided to end his acting career abruptly because of his party affiliation then they have reduced the quality of entertainment to Ghanaians because he made a lot of Ghanaians develop love for Ghanaian movies.

“Mr. Beautiful is a multi-talented actor and in Ghana there are only four multi-talented actors/actress; Nana Ama McBrown, Akrobeto, Majid Michel and myself (Mr. Beautiful),” he claimed.

The actor revealed that though he has never been featured in any movie since 2012 after campaigning for President John Mahama he lives a good life. “I have my own infinity car and have my family so I have no worry.”

Mr. Beautiful disclosed that a renowned mobile phone dealer, MC phone near Odo Rice at Circle in Accra gave him GH¢100,000 to start a movie but he returned the money to the man and said “God has not told me to produce movies and if I should do it, the movie producers will sabotage me and it will be costly.”

He recalled an instance where radio personality, Fiifi Banson, tried to persuade some movie producer to reconsider featuring him in movies. According to him, Jackson Bentum, a producer, stated bluntly that he (Mr. Beautiful) is a member of the NDC so his movies will not sell in Kumasi because most of these producers are members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“If Kumasi movie producers have rejected my movies because of my party affiliation, I am doing a feasibility study to act and market my movies in Accra rather than in Kumasi,” Mr. Beautiful stated.

We are really not showcasing our country - Gifty Anti

sadfsdfsdfdgggTV personality and host of The Standpoint, Gifty Anti, has called on Ghanaians and Africa as a whole to go back to portraying their cultural values in their movies.
“We have so many beautiful things here that we can use to showcase our uniqueness, so we have to go back to our culture,” she said in an interview with Red Carpet on Joy Prime on Multi-TV.

“When you watch, the Nigerians were doing it so well, but they are also losing it with the new movies that are coming up,” she added
According to her, the entertainment industry is deviating from our culture and is rather copying from Western culture.
“We are really not showcasing our country, at a point we tried but we have lost it; apart from the traditional settings we do in our movies, we are all dressing the Western way and we are forgetting Ghana.”

Whilst saying the industry has lost its way, Gifty Anti, pointed out that some Ghanaian industry players are really trying their best to showcase the country.

“Without any bias I will mention Becca who does very well with her African fabric all the time and Shirley Frimpong-Manson also started portraying some of our African designs by using the fabric in her movies but the rest of them are going back to the Western way.”

“Ghana is beautiful, I wish we could wear Ghana from Monday to Sunday,” she concluded.

Movie producers urged to collaborate for quality productions

Producer of new Ghanaian TV Series "Sunshine Avenue", Kwame Boadi is calling on Ghanaian movie makers and TV series producers to collaborate with each other to produce quality work and sustain the industry.

He was speaking to Adom News at the launch of Sunshine Avenue, jointly produced by Ingenius Africa and Advantage, with sponsorship from Investcom Advisers.

Kwame Boadi was also the producer of two popular TV series, Suncity and Taxi Driver.

He noted that in Hollywood, various production houses, advertisers and financiers collaborate to make movies and TV series go global, but in Africa people tend to do things as individuals, which is not good for the industry.

“In Africa, movie makers tend to go solo and so we are unable to make good quality movies and we are unable to sustain the production over a long period of time but in Hollywood they come together to ensure quality and longevity of their productions,” he said.

Kwame Boadi said through collaboration with another production house in Denmark, he has produced a new movie called Gold Coast which is due to be premiered in Denmark this June and Ghana in July.

“Collaboration is the way forward and I advise my colleague movie providers to look for partners and collaborate for sustainability,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the new series, “Sunshine Avenue” has lots of humor and focuses on typical Ghanaian and Nigerian lifestyles.

It features old and new actors in a drama around a promiscuous hairdresser, a supermarket owner and a con man of a pastor.

He assured Ghanaians that the collaboration between Ingenius Africa, Advantage and Investcom would come out with many more quality productions going forward.

Our artist’s appearance on Judgement Board on Pluzz FM gave us a shock of our lives as it was revealed that contrary to information by our country representative that Anumaa‘s new single Beautiful ft Fresh Prince of 4×4 fame was produced by Kaywa, the song was actually produced by Willis Beats.

This whole issue started on Tuesday, 21st April on Pluzz fm's morning show AM PLUZZ. A new song which was reviewed during the Judgement Board segment of the show which had Sound Engineer Oteng on board revealed his doubts if Kaywa was the producer of the beat of the new single by Anumaa which featured Fresh Prince of 4x4 fame.

During the review, Oteng raised doubts on the producer whihc made the host and producer of the show, Sammie Flex and Mr. Massive to call Kawya. Kaywa then confirmed had no idea who the said artist was and after listening to the song, he wished he had produced the song.

"I can't recall dealing with any artist by that name but after listening to the song, l wish l had produced the song. Its a beautiful but unfortunately l know nothing about it"said Kaywa.
