MUSIGA elections slated for October 29

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced that it is preparing to go to the polls in October 29 this year.

According to MUSIGA, members who are not literate in English are disqualified from filing nominations to contest for positions in the union.

About 150 delegates will converge at the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua, on October 29 to either retain current president Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) or elect a new one.

They will also elect executives to steer the affairs of the most powerful musicians’ body in the country.

Ahead of the showdown, MUSIGA has, in a statement, spelt out the rules of engagement for persons interested in leading the body.

Other qualifications required, apart from being literate in the English language are that the individual must be of sound mind, must have no criminal record, and must be a paid up member of MUSIGA.

For those interested in the MUSIGA presidency “must have held an executive position. This means the person should have either been a national or regional executive member to be eligible,” the statement added.

The filing of nominations for the MUSIGA elections began on Monday, July 27 and ends on Friday, August 28 after which candidates will undergo vetting prior to the release of the final list of contestants.

Earlier, MUSIGA announced filing fees for the various positions up for grabs.

The filing fees are as follows:

President – GH¢3,000.00
1st Vice President – GH¢ 2,000.00

The statement, signed by Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Director of Special Projects and Communications, noted that in accordance with Article 11 of the Union’s constitution, “an independent election committee shall be appointed by the National Executive Council (NEC) which shall be made up of 5 non-office holding musicians.

A Message to All National Personnels who ended their Service Today

We end the journey today. The journey that has exposed our resilience, persistence and patience to endure.
A journey that has given us a glimpse of how our next world would be.Indeed, it has truly been a journey of learning.

Yes, learning of our strengths ,weaknesses and that of others.
If we could cope in hope, then there is absolutely no doubt that we can survive our next world.
While I express my profound gratitude to God for his goodness and strength, I will also want to applaud the many young men and women who didn't baulk at the unknown, but availed themselves to a national service engagement in places they never knew of.

But going forward, i hope we will be awoken to the power of friendship, loyalty and trust. Can we now find time to call the friends we couldn't call due to our national service? Can we begin to create opportunities rather than search for them?It is for us.The world is now our common battle referee, our mind, the battle ground
God bless You.

There is no pain compared to what u feel now mixed with ‘if I had knowns”.At the same time you have to Simultaneously be the man at the moment for all your Siblings. .As I wish you my HEART felt Condolences and God’s strength. ..I also want to remind you..Your Mom is not gone…She is what you have become,Her principles are what keeps you moving ,God believes her Job is done but he will surely show u her traits through your kids when they are born..It might be their Smile, their composure when angry or their approach to life overall. …. God give you strength. …….Call on me Any day brother. ….

And Remember nothing will make her proud than you continuing the legacies she impacted …Deaths Icy hands cannot surmount the Ultimate eternal Fulfilment you get internally if you know every step still makes her proud in the heavens.

Exclusive: Wereko-Brobbey sues GBC, three others; seeks injunction on collection of TV licence fees

GraphicOnline can exclusively report that the founder of the defunct Radio Eye, Charles Wereko Brobby, has filed a suit at the Fast Track High Court in Accra, seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from “illegally” collecting TV Licence fees from August 1, 2015.

The National Media Commission (NMC), Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Attorney-General are second, third and fourth respondents respectively in the case.

According to GraphicOnline’s Chief Legal Correspondent, Mabel Aku Baneseh, Dr Wereko Brobby, who is being represented by Egbert Faibille Jnr. of Faibille & Faibille law firm, contends that GBC, “cannot share any moneys received by it with any other entity whether private or state-owned as same ought to be deposited in its bank accounts.”

The plaintiff also contends, among other contentions, that the “2nd, 3rd and 4th Defendants have not been appointed by the Minister of Finance by any legislative instrument to be a licensing authority(s) as provided for by NLCD 89; particularly when 3rd Defendant as an association and/or its individual members are not statutory corporations.”

In the writ of summons, a copy of which is in the possession GraphicOnline, Dr Wereko Brobby is praying the court to declare that it is illegal for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents to be beneficiaries of any TV licence fee collected.

The plaintiff is also praying the court for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining 1st Defendant, its official, assigns, hirelings, privies, servants, agents and/or any person claiming under or through it; and howsoever described from commencing and/or resuming the collection of the newly introduced TV Licence Fees from the 1st day of August, 2015 or any date thereafter as the formula for sharing same as announced and/or any other formula for sharing same among Defendants is unlawful and a violation of LI 226, NRCD 89 as well as NLCD 226.”

No place for poor, dumb men – Actress says

Like most women, a good man with a sense of style is likely to catch actress, Zynnell Zuh’s attention, particularly if he has a deep pocket to complement his elegant personality.

Looks and cash and a lot of it mean a lot to the famous actress in relationships, but nothing sweeps Zynnell off her feet as man who appears as dapper as he is engaging.

But if you are handsome and broke or plain dumb, you have no place in her life.

“The first thing I look out for when a guy approaches me is his look and then (I consider) his outfit. I later enquire a few things about him through our conversation which gives me an insight into how  smart and engaging he is “explains actress, who is noted for her roles in movies such as single six, seduction deadline, Adams Apple,Wannabe,The Battle and Living Ghost.

Zynnell told showbiz in an interview that after a number of breaks ups she was not single but admitted that a smart, good looking guy with enough cash was likely to win her love.

Unfortunately, she claimed a number handsome guys came into her life and hoped for a successful relationship but things did not work out “because they were not smart enough”.

The actress who returned back from Nigeria recently after working on her latest movie, Backward, was emphatic and unashamed as she told the Showbiz she cannot date or poor man.

“Every lady loves to feel and look good all the time. A broke man will not be my kind of man because I want to enjoy the best that life has qualifications to poor for now, I might consider him.”

Nonetheless, Zynnell will not allow the most handsome and ‘loaded’ man to come in between her and her career.

Asked to choose between her job and her man she said her job will definitely come first. “For now, I will choose my job because that is what made me who I am.If my partner is not willing to accept the kind of work I do then he is not the right man for me.I believe couples should be able to sit and resolve issues and if my man is not willing to do the very thing that makes me happy, then I am afraid he is not the man for me. No man can tell me to quit acting.”

She is credited with three movies When Loves Comes Around, Love Regardless and Anniversary under her production house, Box pictures.
