FESPACO, which is the largest film festival in Africa, is held biennially in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The festival affords African filmmakers the opportunity to establish working relationships, exchange ideas and promote their work. The film festival aims to contribute to the expansion and development of African cinema as a means of expression, education and awareness-raising.
Two productions, “The Traveller” and “Kadi (Lantern)” by final year students of NAFTI were nominated for the Film Schools Award Category in the 2015 FESPACO, with “The Traveller” winning the Special Jury Price for African Film Schools. The award came with a trophy and a cash price of 1,000,000. 00 CFA Franc (GH¢5,800. 00).
“The Traveller” tells the story of a man who gives up his unsuccessful relationship for his music. He boards a bus one day and meets a mystery woman, who he expresses interest in. She asks him to wait for her, which he does until he felt he could wait no more.
Picking up the award on behalf of Mr. Sedufia, Ms. Victoria Delali Dogbe, the assistant director of the production, and a third year student of NAFTI said, “the concept of “The Traveller” came out of a student discussion about unrequited love and it brings me great honour to have been a part of this production”.
Mr. Sedufia, the director of the production, is currently in South Africa, representing NAFTI at a Documentary and Diversity (D&D) Exchange Programme slated for South Africa and Finland.
