I was shocked over BBC Komla Dumor award - Nancy Kacungira
Ugandan journalist, Nancy Kacungira has
revealed to host of Starr Chat Bola Ray on Starr 103.5FM that she was in
shock when she was announced winner of the first BBC World News Komla
Dumor Award.
“I was actually in bed…I had just woken up when I received a call and was told that I had won…I was in shock”.
Kacungira, a television anchor with Kenya's KTN television channel, with a background as an entrepreneur, and a radio presenter was selected from nearly 200 applicants.
As part of her prize, Kacungira will spend three months at the BBC in London and also report from Africa for the BBC TV, radio and online.
In an interview on Starr Chat Wednesday, Kacungira encouraged anyone with a dream in journalism to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve greatness.
“Anyone who has a dream in journalism… you must believe in yourself and you can do it”.
The BBC World News Komla Dumor Award was established to honor Ghana’s Komla Dumor, an exceptional presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41.
Dumor was keen on telling the African story through a dignifying perspective.
