THE BRAND “KWAME SEFA
KAYI”
When l heard of the
Radio and Television Personality Award to be held on the 23rd June,
2012, l asked myself the definition and for what purpose is the award?
I surf the internet
to get more details on the awards and the personalities who have being nominated
by organizers to be voted for.
The details l had
really interest me a lot. A whole lot of persons have being nominated and to
tell you the truth, each and every one of them in their own special way deserve
an award. At least, if not for anything at all; for their commitment to
entertaining us listeners and viewers of radio and television respectively.
At one moment when
you listen to a program which does not interest you, with anger you tune to
another platform of interest; but let not forget that what does not interest
you would surely interest another person.
Taking a look at all
the categories, l wish to focus on the top - most award
(RADIO &
TELEVISION PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR)
Starting with the nominees
and describing them to my understanding:
1. GIFTY ANTI – GTV – (a woman of substance with the focus
of bringing the “stand points” of the feminine side which is not well known to
the world and if known, simply ignored Obaa Gifty, Ayekoo)
2. KWAME DZOKOTO – TV3 & HELLO FM – (a humble man who would do what it
takes to bring knowledge of good health to the door step of every Ghanaian and
you won’t even know how he communicates it to ones subconscious mind. All you
realize is that, you are use to the idea of good and healthy life in a comic
way – Kwame, Ayedie papapaa; Meri didi)
3. PAUL ADOM OTCHERE – METRO TV – (on the road to Damascus, he found the
light and transform his way of life to the good one. In the corner of challenges,
he found the light that makes him stand out to digest the issues to the best of
his viewers. With courage, he has being able to bring to light the current
affairs of the country and world at large to the door step of the ordinary
Ghanaian and beyond. With great selection of issues and panelists, he is able
to satisfy the one watching his program in the best way that he can.
4. KWAME SEFA KAYI – PEACE FM
5. NANA ABA ANAMOAH – TV3 – (a young dynamic and courageous lady
who would go all length to make her point known to the world. Some call her the
“wild” one but to me she is the voice of what she stands for. With all what she
is involved with; she tries as much as possible to ensure that what she is
addressing is well understood by those watching. Nana Aba….. wayi adia
papapaa…koso saaaa!!!
6. ADAKABRE FRIMPONG MANSON – ADOM FM –
(a man who would love to add comic to his presentations to ensure that
the lighter side of issues is also seen so his listeners won’t take everything
in the arena of challenges serious because in his presentations, there lies a
solution. Adakabre….okyeame aa onim kasa…ayekoo!!!)
7. SHAMIMA MUSLIM – METRO TV & CITI
FM – (one lady who made me move all the way from my home to Citi fm one
Saturday morning just to congratulate her. A young intelligent, dynamic and
well focused lady who has stood her grounds in the area where very few women
would dare. I call her the Yaa Asantewaa of today’s media political platform.
Fearless and ask what must be asked. She is really an icon for the girl child
and the young ones of this generation. Shamima…Nagode…ayekoo!!!)
In the above, one would realize that all these individual
really deserve the award expect one person; Kwame Sefa Kayi of Peace fm. (don’t
ask why, just read on)
The question l would like to ask is, does he deserve it or
must he be the winner. You can deserve an award but it doesn’t mean you should
win but when you are to win, it means you are the winner.
Kwame Sefa Kayi to me
does not deserve the award but must win the award or must be given the award.
Why do l sound like this? Let take a look at all these attributes of all the
above mentioned personalities and see if they can be found in Kwame Sefa Kayi?
I choose to address him as (KSK) in this area of identification in all
personalities above.
KSK – GIFTY:
KSK have demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt that he being a man can still
be classified as “woman of substance”. He goes as far as bringing to the table
the dilemma of women. A typical example was when he brought a lady call Abigail
to his studio and professionally interviewed her and made her plights known to
the world. He did not only interview but with his influence in society, this
lady was offered the table of solutions. KSK goes on to celebrate women in
their achievements and also ensures that their rights are respected no matter
what.
KSK – (DZOKOTO): KSK
with no doubt the way l have seen him, one of the humble personalities in this
country. In the mix of issues that can trigger the gun to cause violence in
this country, he uses his professional and intelligent craftiness to laughably
handle the issue and one subconscious mind absorbs it and unknown to the one
listening, you start to act in that direction. For instance, when KSK asked the
world to ensure that they watch what they do and eat to prevent kidney problems
in their lives, l can attest today that a lot of my friends and myself are
going the direction of his education. Although he was serious, he still made us
laugh about some of the things he talked about.
KSK - ADOM
OTCHERE: KSK in the corner of
challenges in this country, he finds the light that makes him stand out to
digest the issues to the best of his listeners. With courage, he has being able
to bring to light the current affairs of the country and world at large to the
door step of the ordinary Ghanaian and beyond. With great selection of issues
and panelists, he is able to satisfy the one listening to his program in the
best way that he can. He is tolerant and very strict and ensures that his
platform is never used to cause fear, panic and confusion to his listeners.
Simply put indiscipline
and disrespectfulness
is never allowed in his corner; no matter who you are.
KSK – ABA ANAMOAH: KSK a young dynamic and courageous man
who would go all length to make his point known to the world. Some call him the
“wild” one with the way he handles all these influential personalities who he
invites to his studio but to me he is the voice of what he stands for “the
people”. With all what he is involved with; he tries as much as possible to
ensure that what he is addressing is well understood by those listening. An
instance is the issue of the kidney disease.
KSK – ADAKABRE: a man who would love to add comic to
his presentations to ensure that the lighter side of issues is also seen so his
listeners won’t take everything in the arena of challenges serious because in
his presentations, lies a solution. He goes ahead and laughs with his express
“agyaaa tolaw!”
KSK – SHAMIMA: A young intelligent, dynamic and well focused man who has
stood his grounds in the area where very few men would dare. I call him the Martin
Luther King Jnr of today’s media political platform. Fearless and ask what must
be asked. And when he thinks the good people of Ghana is being deceived, he
would stand for the Ghanaian and ask for the prove or evidence and go further
to tell Ghana the truth of the matter by way of letting his thoughts out which
just a few media personalities would dare. He is really an icon for the Ghanaian
child and the young ones of this generation.
Now, l want to ask
something, all these personalities deserve the award but must KSK not be given
the award? If not for anything at all for the following 5 points:
1. He used his voice and platform to earn
thousands of dollars to support the Christian Council in building a Kidney
Centre which would save millions of people in the country and beyond.
2. He used his voice and platform to save
the life a sick lady Matilda who would one day become a mother. (This
means, he has saved a generation of people who would help build this country
through the lineage of Abigail)
3. He used his voice to bring peace among
Ghanaians when politicians deceive the ordinary Ghanaian (l won’t mention names because we
have heard some of these politicians mess up themselves when asked intelligent
questions).
4. KSK used his voice and platform to
educate the ordinary Ghanaian on issues in the country. ( Health, Sanitation, Disasters,
Politics, Law, Education etc)
5. KSK used his personality to promote the
awareness of HIV / AIDS in the country and the fact of us Ghanaians not stigmatizing
them that are affected.
KWAME
SEFA – KAYI always remains me of this quote,
“Regardless of age, regardless of position,
regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the
importance of branding,
WE ARE CEOs OF OUR OWN COMPANIES:
“ME Inc”.
To be in business today, our most
important job is to be head marketer for the brand called YOU.”
KSK, a man
needs not to be praised and recognized when dead but it must be done when one
is alive. I salute you KSK for winning the award. It is our little way as
Ghanaians to say THANK YOU.
Just like
you always humbly request; “when you say a prayer, please say for me too”.
He shall always be a brand in my prayer.
KSK is a BRAND and not a simple personality.
We all say
thank you
CHAIRMAN GENERAL KWAME SEFA – KAYI.
(GOD BLESS)
