Ghanaian Reggae musician Rocky Dawuni has made history and a huge statement in the Ghana music cycles after he was nominated for the 58th Grammy Awards to be held in February 2016.
Rocky Dawuni becomes the first Ghanaian to receive a Grammy nomination after the nominations were announced over the weekend.
Dawuni's latest album "Branches of of the Same Tree" which he recently launch and some few days ago had a mega concept received nomination in the Best Reggae Album category and will be competing with Morgan Heritage, Jah Cure, Barrington Levy, and Luciano for the top most award.
Speaking on Starr Fm an Accra based radio station, Grammy Award nominee, Rocky Dawuni said his nomination is a testament to the musical ingenuity of Ghanaian artistes.
“This shows that Ghanaian music has come of age as a global force to reckon…It’s a testament that all the work we’ve done to bring our music to the world has yielded results”.
He continues, "I didn’t get there just by myself I was inspired by a lot of Ghanaian musicians whose work became an embodiment of who I am now.”
In recognition of the highlife and hiplife musicians he listen to, Dawuni said “this award is to honour all the work that they have done and continue to do. “It’s a good day for Ghana and Ghanaian music.”
He added, “I never made records for awards…but then again I knew that at some point people who discern and value good work are going to recognize you.”
