Rocky Dawuni Becomes First Ghanaian Grammy Awards Nominee

Ghanaian Reggae musician Rocky Dawuni has made history and a huge statement in the Ghana music cycles after he was nominated for the 58th Grammy Awards to be held in February 2016.

Rocky Dawuni becomes the first Ghanaian to receive a Grammy nomination after the nominations were announced over the weekend.
Dawuni's latest album "Branches of of the Same Tree" which he recently launch and some few days ago had a mega concept received nomination in the Best Reggae Album category and will be competing with Morgan Heritage, Jah Cure, Barrington Levy, and Luciano for the top most award.

Speaking on Starr Fm an Accra based radio station, Grammy Award nominee, Rocky Dawuni said his nomination is a testament to the musical ingenuity of Ghanaian artistes.

“This shows that Ghanaian music has come of age as a global force to reckon…It’s a testament that all the work we’ve done to bring our music to the world has yielded results”.

He continues, "I didn’t get there just by myself I was inspired by a lot of Ghanaian musicians whose work became an embodiment of who I am now.”

In recognition of the highlife and hiplife musicians he listen to, Dawuni said “this award is to honour all the work that they have done and continue to do. “It’s a good day for Ghana and Ghanaian music.”

He added, “I never made records for awards…but then again I knew that at some point people who discern and value good work are going to recognize you.”

Bisa Kdei "Mansa" Rules

The song which is less than 6 months old has been able to penetrate into all the corners of Ghana's map; from the Urban to the Rural citizens of the country, thus, making the number of views on YouTube an impressive one.

On August 19th, Black Legendary Music Crew released the music video for Mansa, and in 3 months, the song has gotten over 1 million views on YouTube.

For the record, this is the first time in Ghana's music industry for a song by any Ghanaian based musician to hit over a million views within 3 months.

The music video, which was directed by Xbillz Ebenezer features actress Benedicta Gafah, who posed as the Beautiful Mansa Bisa Kdei is singing for. Barba Shai and the Smart Dance Crew gave us some exciting dance moves while comic actor, Funny Face cracks our ribs with his funny moves.

The MANSA video, which is at variance with the usual videos performed by Bisa Kdei, has modern classic scenes, which depicts a versatile Bisa Kdei, who has shifted from his traditional way of music videos.

“MANSA” was produced by Bisa Kdei and Kaywa and forms part of a yet-to-be-released album by the contemporary hi-life singer.

Bisa Kdei titles his upcoming album BreakThrough and so far, two songs from the album have been made available to the public - these include, Mansa and Brother Brother.

Brother Brother on the other hand is also gaining attention, enjoying massive airplay as well as topping music charts since its release a month ago.

2016 AMVCAs Nominees Announcement

Preparations for the fourth edition of the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) kicks into yet another gear as nominees are announced on Friday, 11 December 2015. DStv and GOtv audiences should tune in to catch the announcement which airs on all Africa Magic channels at 21:30 CAT. Public voting opens immediately after the announcement and closes on the 26th of February, 2016.

The Nominee Announcement, which will be hosted by ace Kenyan broadcaster Larry Madowo and popular Nigerian comedienne Chigurl, is once again brought to viewers across the continent by Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice and the headline sponsor, Amstel Malta.

The Director, M-Net (West) Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, said: “We are pleased to invite our viewers to tune in as Africa Magic announces nominees for the 2016 AMVCAs. The AMVCAs remain the most important celebration of film and television talent across Africa, and for the 2016 edition we have received over 2,500 entries. Since the maiden edition in 2013, the AMVCAs have celebrated the contributions of African filmmakers, actors and technicians to the success of the continent’s film and television industry. Bisa Kdei, Sarkodie, Efya, Kaakie, MzVee Nominated For 2016 KORA AWARDS

Ghanaian multi award winning highlife sensation Bisa Kdei has been nominated for the 2016 KORA AWARDS. Bisa Kdei who is currently having the most popular song in Ghana today titled, "Mansa" has been nominated in the Best Male Artist West Africa Category.

The Brother Brother hit maker will have to battle Flavour and Davido from Nigeria, Nelson Feritas from Cape Verde, Serge from Cote d'Ivoire and Atumpan from Ghana to win the award.

Bisa Kdei is in a strong position to win the category especially with his song "Mansa" which goes beyond the borders of Ghana.

In other nominations, Ghanaian award winning rapper Sarkodie received two nominations. He was nominated for the Best Collaboration category and Best HipPop category.

Dancehall female songstress, MzVee has also receive a nomination in the Best Urban Category.

Sensational female vocalist Efya has also been nominated for the Best Female West Africa category.

Dancehall sensation, Kaakie have all received nomination for the Most Promising Female Artist Africa category.

Mariah Carey Rushed to the Hospital

There seems to be a virus going around Hollywood. Mariah Carey is the latest celeb to get benched by a bad case of the flu. In fact, the singer's condition is so bad she's been rushed to the hospital in New York City.

According to TMZ, Mimi is hooked up to IVs and is being "pumped full of fluids and vitamins" to help rid her body of the nasty illness. According to the site, she started feeling ill after her appearance at Pier 1 on Tuesday night, and by Wednesday it was so bad that her team hauled her into the emergency room. 

Mimi is scheduled to perform at Hot 97's "Hot for the Holidays" concert on Saturday night. Hopefully doctors will give her the all-clear to hit the stage this weekend!

Nana Aba Swerves Multimedia For Gh One TV

Nana Aba Anamoah has been trending via the various social media handles because many would like to know where exactly she will be heading after her resignation from TV3.

In the early hours of yesterday, many online news porters reported she is heading to Multimedia Group's Joy News TV and their radio station, Joy Fm.
Surprisingly, Ghana woke up this morning to hear the negotiations has gone bad and that the news anchor will not be heading to Multimedia any more. 

Studio360gh has followed keenly to the developments and can say on authority that, Nana Aba Anamoah is heading to the newly acquired Television station GhOneTV by the Excellence In Broadcasting Networks (EIB Networks).
Though many predicted this, it looked as impossible as at yesterday.

GhOne Tv is set roll out their official programs come December 14th, 2015.
