I’m not a big fool – Becca

Opinions are sharply divided among stakeholders in the Ghana music industry whether it makes economic sense for award-winning singer Becca to have released a single music video that cost an alarming $50,000; but the artiste has told NEWS-ONE she is no fool and that time would tell whether she took a right or wrong decision.
A single video costing $50,000 has never been recorded in Ghana’s music industry.
NEWS-ONE therefore reached EKB Records, managers of Becca, to explain the source of funding and rational of investment.
The music video is for her new song ‘No Away’ in which she featured Nigerian music heavyweight, M.I. (pronounced em-eye which stands for Mr. Incredible) and was shot on locations in South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria.
NEWS-ONE: Does it make economic sense for a Ghanaian artiste to come out with a music video estimated around $50,000?
E.K.B: It is worth it if you are targeting the African market and or beyond. But if not, then in my opinion it will not make sense. We have heard all the controversy and talks. Some congratulate us while others criticize us for whatever reasons.

Well it is all good but the truth is we are not a bunch of big fools here and we know exactly on which waters to cast our bread for it to return to us many days after.

Time would tell whether we acted wrongly or we took a prudent investment decision.

When you watch all those videos on Channel O, MTV, Trace Urban and other international channels, they air the songs not because it was by Beyonce or Akon.

If Beyonce does a bad video, no one would air it. And this is no illuminati fairytale; it is about quality and professionalism.

They look out for quality- quality of the filming, lighting, editing, sound, the content, and the production.

That is what we are looking at and that is what sells internationally and that is why the investment was worth it.

NEWS-ONE: How soon are we seeing this video?
E.K.B: On the 22nd of August, after it has been premiered in Nigeria. About a couple of weeks ago, we had an unveiling ceremony at the XL Club in Accra and I believe the media and music heavyweights who were there would testify that this is the biggest thing to happen to music videos in Ghana.

NEWS-ONE: What exactly went into the production that made it this expensive and where from the cash?
E.K.B: “Logistics, direction and most importantly quality of service. Quality is expensive but it pays off in the long run.

This video would create an international impact that is good for the artiste and our industry.

We had a sponsorship package from giant liquor brand Kasapreko Company Limited and fact is if there were a few more of such companies, our entertainment industry would have reached its desired destination.

What many investors do not know is that they can actually fall on artistes to take their brands international.

For instance, you invite foreign guests into Ghana and they tell you that drinks from Kasapreko right here in Ghana can compete with the entire international big liquor names you hear but we have not pushed hard enough.

We intend associating very strongly with the Kasapreko brand in all our international events and let the world accept for a fact that there is an authentic liquor brand from Ghana. Already, it is doing very well in Nigeria and a few other places.

NEWS-ONE: What influenced the decision to feature M.I. and how much was he paid?
E.K.B: We believed and still strongly believe that M.I. would add some more magic to the song which he did and also bring along his large fan base globally.

Interestingly, M.I. did the collaboration for absolutely free because in his own words ‘I have followed this artiste and I believe in her.’ As at when he was recording his part of the song, he had never met Becca in person. They met for the first time on the set of the video in South Africa.

NEWS-ONE: Is that the basis of deciding who Becca features in her songs?
E.K.B: All our features including that of Hugh Masekela have been based on the credibility. And it also depends on what the target it.

In Ghana, she has done songs with an uncountable number of very good artistes we consider to be very credible.

But there is actually a surprise coming your way in terms of who her next collaboration would be with.

When we say we are looking at the international market and thinking big, we need to prove it. Though it is a lot of hard work and sleepless nights, we are nearing the achievement of the dream.

NEWS-ONE: ‘No Away’. What is the message you want to send across.
E.K.B: Simple, when you love someone you have to give it your all till the end.

NEWS-ONE: Any special thing you want to tell your fans about this video?
E.K.B: That they should please be patient and wait for the public release on the 22nd of August and that it will be worth the wait.

NEWS-ONE: Thank you
E.K.B: We should be thanking you.

ASEM FT. PAT THOMAS - DEAR JOHN (PRESiDENT ATTAH MiLLS TRiBUTE)

(click to listen)

One of Ghana’s Hip Life gems, ASEM has once again showcased his lyrical and song writing abilities in his latest single, Dear John dedicated to the memory of the late President J.E.A Mills.

The beautifully crafted song eulogized the late President with carefully chosen lyrics which talked about the traits that endeared the Prof Mills to all and sundry.

According to ASEM in an interview with Joy FM’s, Jefferson Sackey, Dear John should not be confused with a cheer song although it sounds pleasing to the ears and has probably one of the nicest instrumentation seen in recent times.

He said the late President Mills was a plain and simple man, so from the artistic point of view it was not difficult trying to create a tribute song around his character.

ASEM said the motive behind the song was to celebrate the highs of the late President and the things that he did that defined his personality as Atta Mills.

ASEM added that his choice in collaborating with Pat Thomas was to help the song break the generational barriers.

THE DASH OF PRESIDENT MILLS

I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone.

From the beginning.....to the end.

He noted that, first came the date of her birth and he spoke of the following date with tears,
but he waht matters most was the DASH between those years.

For that DASH represents all the time
she spent alive on earth
and now only those who loved her
knows what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars...the houses...the cash...

Waht matters most is how we lived and loved........
and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard;
are there things you'd like to change?

For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.

If you could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real.....
and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick in anger
and show more appreciation
and love the people in our lives...
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile...
remembering that this special DASH might only last a little while.

So, when you eulogy is being read...
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they say,
about how you spent your DASH?

Dash Poem by Linda Ellis ©1996 - 2007

From the STUDIO360degrees team to all Ghanaians, as we mourn our past President, Let ask our selves this question.
The man has done his part;
He has spent his DASH with us and we can all share in the testimonies from all over the world.
How we all wish he is alive to listen to all these things that is being said about him.
Today you have the chance to redirect your DASH to make better for all.

To the family of the Late President,
To all Ghanaians,
To the political Party in belongs,
To friends and sympathizers

DAMIRIFA DUA!!! MAY THE LATE PRESIDENT PROF. JOHN EVANS FIIFI ATAA MILLS REST IN PERFECT PEACE!!!

TB Joshua: I Would Have Averted Mills Death If.....

Founder and General Overseer of the Synagogue Church, Prophet T.B. Joshua says in an unusual manner, God did not reveal the death of Ghana’s President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, which occurred on Tuesday in Accra.

The renowned cleric in a mournful mood affirmed he would have intensified prayers to avert the sudden departure of the late President if he had received any revelation from God.

“The Ghanaian President was like a spiritual son to me so I could pray to God to avert the death, if I had received any revelation from him,” Prophet T.B. reportedly told reporters in Legos, Nigeria when commenting on the death of President Mills.

On that score, he revealed President Mills and other senior government officials had visited his temple thrice this year to receive special prayers, but God never revealed his death to him in all the three instances.

“Of course, I knew he had been ill for some time now and he had come for special prayers concerning his health thrice this year, and I and my other ministers had prayed fervently for him. I was so hopeful he would recover his health completely, but it is sad and only God knows best why he should die now,” he asserted.

Against that backdrop, Prophet TB Joshua expressed profound shock over the death of Prof. Mills and urged Ghanaians to remain calm in this torrid period.

T.B. Joshua added: “Mills was a very committed person in the things of God and also very dedicated. Each time he was in church, you could see the fervor and hunger and thirst for God written all over his countenance. He was a very dear son to me and I was his spiritual godfather.

“I know many persons will be saying how come my fervent prayers did not save his life. All I can answer such persons is, why God allowed Stephen in the New Testament Bible to be stoned to death. Why did God not save the life of Stephen, an innocent man, as he was being stoned, dying?

The answer is simply this: sometimes God allows things to happen for unknown reasons, and indeed reasons no man can explain, that is why God is Almighty Sovereign God; who indeed can question Him, who can challenge God?

“When we humanity eventually see God in the glorious city of Heaven, then, can we have answers to all our questions. For now, he can only get a 99 percent answer but never a 100 per cent answer”. **

'Join Illuminati And Land In Hell'--Pastor Tells D'Banj

Before now, it was being speculated that top Nigerian music star, D'Banj has joined the illuminati group. This perception may have been imagined as a result of D'Banj being signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music label.

During the Mohits' troubled time, it was insinuated that both Don Jazzy and D'Banj fell apart due to illuminati issues. With the Kokomaster's (as D'Banj is also known as) romance with Kanye West and the Jay Z's clique got stronger, more people believed that D'Banj was already into the world's renowned cult group.

Last week Thursday, July 12, 2012, D'Banj was in Lagos for a special prayer service organised for Nigerian celebrities to avert sudden death among them.

The call was made by Pastor Wole Oladiyun, the Senior Pastor of Christ Living Spring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Ogba, Lagos.

A source close to the senior pastor reliably told Nigeriafilms.com that D'Banj was warned by Pastor Oladiyun not to join or be associated with illuminati. We were told that the pastor gave D'Banj this stern warning when he had a chat with him.

He was quoted to have told the 'Oliver Twist' singer, "don't join illuminati if you don't want to go to hell fire", the source told Nigeriafilms.com.

We also reliably gathered that D'Banj had a short performance at the service, where he sang his 'Olorun Maje' song.

The Illuminati cult was founded on May 1, 1776, in Ingolstadt (Upper Bavaria) as the Order of the Illuminati, with an initial membership of five, by Adam Weishaupt. He was the first lay professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt.

The cult was made up of free-thinkers as an offshoot of the Enlightenment and seems to have been modeled on the Freemasons.

The Illuminati's members took a vow of secrecy and pledged obedience to their superiors. Members were divided into three main classes, each with several degrees, and many Illuminati chapters drew membership from existing Masonic lodges.

Highest Paid Music Artiste Revealed

Finding out how much our musicians are worth has always been a no-go area as they never tell anyone – except when they feel cheated by a promoter. That is the only time they may disclose charges.

For weeks, Showbiz has been trying to find out from the musicians themselves how much they earn and the responses received so far have not been conclusive. So we went behind them and spoke with event organisers.

Even they, the event organisers, told Showbiz that the rates are not fixed and that, a number of factors usually influence how much an artiste charges.

These factors include the popularity of the artiste and whether he has a new hot song out; whether the artiste is expected to perform with a live band or playback; and whether the promoter has a good working relationship with the artiste.

Other factors are the duration of time (number of songs) that the artiste is expected to perform; whether the event is big or small; and whether there are big-name foreign artistes involved.

Beyond all the factors, Showbiz has been able to put together the approximate charge by artistes considered the topmost 15 who currently enjoy a high presence on the Ghana showbiz scene today.

The artiste who takes the number one spot, according to our information, is Abrante3 Amakye Dede who charges nothing less than GH¢15.000.

After him comeS a top belt of three artistes whose charges are in the region of GH¢12.000. These are Sarkodie, Samini and Becca.

Kwaw Kesse, VIP and 4x4 are in the GH¢10.000 whilst the others accept a modest sum of GH¢5,000 to perform.

A follow - up to this issue on Entertainment Review on Peace fm on thursday the 19/07/2012 to some of the managers of some of the artistes (like Kiki, manager of Becca) indicates that the artistes take more than the amount mentioned but if this above amount is without overhead cost, then it is close to the right amount.

ASEM GET COZY WITH NANA AMA McBROWN

Actress, Nana Ama Mcbrown who has been on the quiet for sometime now and Rapper Asem were spotted getting cozy, looking fine and sexy at the Southern Belt auditions for Miss Ghana 2012 in Kumasi.

The “Madam Moke” actress and the “Give Me Blow” rapper who were two of the five judges for the selection, stepped out in bright colours and looking stunning.

Their posture in the pictures can be interpreted into several meanings including the fact that their chemistry may extend beyond the Miss Ghana 2012 judging table.

The other judges are Xavier - Manager, Golden Tulip Kumasi City, Barrak El-Mahmoud, CEO, Capture - Your Memory Bank Photography and Inna Maryam Patty - CEO, Exclusive Events Ghana.

The auditions train is currently in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi where 12 lucky contestants will vie for the available six slots for the national finals in Accra. A special photo shoot session today Thursday July 19, 2012, will determine which six contestants out of the 12 can make it. Two from each region that make up the Middle Belt including the Ashanti Region, Brong Ahafo Region and Eastern Region will make up the lucky six.

The Kumasi selection comes off days after the first group of finalists were selected from the Northern Belt, in a move that many has said is really redefining the face of the only national, most respectable and prestigious beauty pageant in Ghana.

Accra which belongs to the Southern Belt, which also includes the Central, Western and Volta regions, will take its turn on July 24 at the Golden Tulip Hotel. 8 lucky contestants will make it from this zone, bringing the number to 20, the total number of finalists who will vie for the coveted title of Miss Ghana 2012.

This year's event is being held under the theme "Evolution of Beauty", and is powered by Exclusive Events Ghana.

SARKODIE FOR BIG BROTHER STAR GAME

Africa has shown that she can hold her own in terms of the rhythm it churns and the dance steps to go along, meaning, our groove is back!

Big Brother Africa is one angle that clarifies that; love it or hate, the continent is moving forward and Ghana has risen to be tops as pacesetters by an inch.

BBA Stargame, couple of weeks past had M.anifest rock the house but come August 5, the Azonto King – Sarkodie will be ‘azontonizing’ Africa via South Africa.

Sarkodie will touch down Ghana at the end of this month, rest for just days before jetting out to South Africa.

Though he will miss the launch of his latest co-joint single with Jayso titled Pizza & Burger on the 24th of July, that wouldn’t hurt so much because it is for his fans to whom he is well pleased.

We wish Sarkodie sound health as he is making the wealth.

WHAT KILLED P-SQUARE'S MUM? P-SQUARE REVEALS THE TRUTH

Josephine Okoye, the late mother of P-Square duo Peter and Paul Okoye had been ill for some time, and was operated on in an Indian hospital a few hours before she gave up the ghost.
It has been confirmed that the deceased passed away about five hours after undergoing heart surgery.
A statement from Psquare’s publicist says ‘Josephine Okoye, who had battled with prolonged illness, passed away in an Indian hospital in Kolkata, last night July 11, 2012 at 11PM.’
Speaking at his residence, Peter Okoye said their late mother suffered from diabetes.
She had earlier been admitted to St. Nicholas hospital in Lagos, but was flown out of the country when her condition worsened.
The atmosphere at Squareville, the Omole Phase 1 home of the Okoye brothers – Peter, Paul and Jude, was somber, less than a day after the news broke.
Friends and colleagues of the award-winning singers have been visiting the house to commiserate with the family.
A condolence register has been opened, and some of those who paid early visits include their album marketer, T-Joe, producers Flip Tyce and Samklef and TV host Helen Paul-Bamisile.
While Peter Okoye opened up his doors to speak, Paul was not seen anywhere in the vicinity.
”You know that she was a prayer warrior, so I don’t need to tell you how she stood by us spiritually. Besides, she was the only one that believed in us when we decided to make a career out of music.”
”I can remember that she used to sneak us out at night then to attend shows without the consent of our father who insisted that we must quit music to face our education’, Peter recounts.”
She is survived by her husband, her children Ifeanyi, Henry, Jude, Lilian, Tony, Peter, Paul and Mary, as well as her grand-children, including Cameron, Peter’s son.

From our team, we send our deepest condolences to all the family.

Essien and Nadia Buari kiss and make up

Chelsea Midfielder, Michael Essien and Ghallywood actress, Nadia Buari, appear to have settled their differences after the former lovers broke up over almost two years ago.
The couple had been the toast of the town until it was reported that the Chelsea FC star had dumped the actress, leading to a war of words which went on for a while.

The two lovebirds recently put aside their egos when they met at the birthday party of TV3 newscaster and host of Diva’s Show, Nana Aba Anamoah held at the Villaggio Primavera last week.
Essien and Nadia, both 29, were spotted hugging, cuddling, kissing and having a good laugh together with other guests.
