Hero: 13 Year Old Boy Gives His Life To Save Drowning Girls

Osagie

13 year old Ricky Osagie from Warrenstown died on Saturday June 21st following a brave attempt to try to save a girl who had got into trouble swimming in a man-made pond at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th.
Hero: 13 Year Old Boy Gives His Life To Save Drowning Girls
According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky’s - a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her.
The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond, and it was up to Ricky to save both girls. Which he did. Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital. The two girls survived, but Ricky died the next day.

Ricky Osagie was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland, his distraught father, Kelly Osagie told the Sunday Irish Mirror. He said Ricky was a hero because he knew he was risking his life when he went into the water as he couldn’t swim.
“He was trying to help someone else.
That’s what happened. My son died a hero. He went in and then that was it. My son is gone but a girl is alive because of him. He always smiled and was happy all the time. He was such a fantastic footballer. We have trophies everywhere in the house. Ricky was going to play for Ireland, that’s what he said he was going to do. He had so many friends. He is a hero, a real hero. I want the world to know what my son did. He was a man.”
May his heroic soul which serves an inspiration to us all rest in perfect peace.

VIDEO: WATCH BOLA RAY'S EMOTIONAL FAREWELL CHAT ON JOY FM

Bola Ray has noted that despite his exit from Joy FM, the warmth of friends and the family at Multimedia Group Limited he enjoyed over the past 11 years will forever remain dear to him. "I wanna see myself as an alumnus. I am walking off but I am not walking away", he stated on the Super Morning Show Friday. News of the exit of the award-winning radio personality rocked entertainment industry Thursday. Social media platforms kept buzzing with the stunning revelation. Gifted with the ability to touch Ghana's entertainment nerve, Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray, joined Joy FM in 2003 from Top Radio and made 3pm to 8pm time slot a hotspot for great music, great discussions on work, family and relations. Bola explained his departure stating that, he needed to move on because as a man of many parts, he had other cards up his sleeve. He also stated, there was the need to give promising talent the opportunity to bloosom. Bola Ray is replaced by Kwame Sakyi Armah also known as Lexis Bill. Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye Adisi is also CEO of Empire Group of Companies which manages Empire Entertainment, and Empire 102.7 FM in Takoradi in the Western Region. Recollecting a load journey in entertainment, Bola Ray said he began his days behind the console at Radio Univers, the University of Ghana campus radio station. He was with the station as a National Service personnel and was a clerk. But his big break came after a student-presenter could not show up and Bola Ray was drafted in. There has been no turning back since. Bola Ray went on to Accra-based, Top Radio where he hosted Top City Jam between 3pm to 6pm. It was until after a second knock on his door by Multimedia Group Limited, saw him join Joy FM in 2003. He had turned down the offer in 2002. He tasked the youth to be passionate and relentless in achieving their goals. At Top Radio where he was given a 12 midnight to 4am slot, Bola Ray, then a student, had to sleep in open spaces at Circle in Accra, just to catch the bus to the University of Ghana campus. "Sometimes I slept at Odo rice with wee smokers". Ever passionate about branding, he stressed the need for the youth to "own that space" where ever they are and remain humble especially, when their pursuit of success becomes a reality.

World Cup 2014: Brazilian women turning to prostitution for World Cup - and England fans are their biggest goal

The working girls of Rio's Vila Mimosa red light district are offering cut-price 'specials' for England fans 'because 'they have travelled so far
Prostitutes working in Brazil’s biggest red light district are offering World Cup “specials” to England fans, just in time for the Greatest Show on Earth.
As the tournament finally arrives in the spiritual home of football, around 4,000 girls in Rio’s Vila Mimosa – or the City of Tender Love – are ready for a huge invasion of punters from the 32 competing nations.
Many see our Three Lions supporters as a source of extra income, and some have even signed up to the trade especially for the competition.
The country’s biggest collection of brothels stands little more than a mile from the famous Maracana stadium and six miles from Copacabana beach.
Flags are out, the girls are in tiny football bikinis, thongs and England tops and fast food vendors and kebab stalls are ready to cash in on visitors.
The working girls offer half an hour of sex for 60 Real – just £16 – with many convinced they can book a passport to a better life with an Englishman.
Campaigners have warned that people traffickers promise to sweep women off to the UK only to enslave them as prostitutes again 5,000 miles from home.
For the World Cup, the girls are offering a cut-price 100 Real – the equivalent of £26 – for an hour in an upstairs boudoir with just a bed and a bin.

Selling sex: Suelen, left, and Mel, right, in Rio’s red light district

It is illegal to pimp a prostitute or to operate a brothel, so the bars of Vila Mimosa are used as a front to hide the back-street sex dens.
Girls lean out onto the streets as lines of punters arrive by taxi, scooter or on foot. Thumping music blasts out with tiny dance floors inside. And outside there are dark, dank alleys decorated with the Brazil colours and flags.
Wearing a dark blue England shirt, mum-of-two Mel, 20, says: “I would love to meet a man from your country, I wish to broaden my outlook.
“I became a prostitute three weeks ago. I know there will be a lot more custom for the World Cup. I use the money to support my family, pay the rent, the bills.
"We are waiting for the English, I cannot speak their language, but I will communicate with the way I know best.
“I will charge them the same rate for half an hour, 60 Real, but 100 for an hour because they have come a long way.”
Mel’s 22-year-old cousin Suelen is a mum of one who goes by the street name “Chocolate”.
Dressed in a white England shirt, she says: “I can’t wait for the World Cup to begin to meet all these lovely new men from Europe – especially London. Of course I want Brazil to win, and I know it is going to be busy.
“We have brought in some extra staff and there are decorations to attract the customers and street vendors.”

Suelen has only been living in the city for six months and says she moved to Rio for work. She says of Mel: “We are cousins, and it is our way of making a living. We have five to six clients in one shift, it just depends on how busy we are.
“I don’t have time to learn English, but I expect to double my wage.
“It is usually around 1,500 Real a week (the equivalent to £400). It should be far more during the World Cup. But I don’t think we will put up our prices.”
Vila Mimosa is next to a slaughterhouse and meat market, and behind the main street is a warren of alleys where girls ply their trade.
All the 100 bars in the area have numbers, with Mel and Suelen working in 62 on a long shift that runs from 8pm to 8am. In the street outside the bar, vendors cook a black bean and beef soup, while punters are also offered a Mocoto “aphrodisiac” brew made from a boiled cow’s foot.
The district has been running for 16 years, though attempts have been made to make it more respectable for the four-week festival of football, with outside barbecues, bunting and TVs in bars.
With the average national wage less than £200 a month, the working girls can earn up to four times that. On the main thoroughfare at the heart of the red light district, women in various states of undress pole dance or pose provocatively for long lines of passing punters.
Here there is none of the traditional Brazilian pageantry of the carnival, nor the glitz and glamour of the expensive World Cup opening ceremony.
Instead it is burger vans, seedy strip joints and nightclubs with the tiny rooms used for sex hidden away.
Cleide Almeida, a social worker with the Association for Residents and Friends in Vila Mimosa, says she expects trade to double to around 10,000 men a day during the month-long event.
Around 120,000 prostitutes operate in the state of Rio. It is legal in Brazil for women over the age of 18 and there are even working “girls” as old as 77.

Break: Women wait for punters next to burger van

Cleide says: “One pensioner was widowed a few years ago, and as a matter of financial necessity she came back to this life. At night she works as a carer for an elderly person and during the day she comes here to top up her earnings.”
Maria, an 18-year-old student, believes that a World Cup fan will “whisk her off to a new life”.
She says: “I’m here to find a gringo to take me away and give me a quiet life.
“I do not want luxury but just to live with a little more dignity and to help my family.”
Her friend Tatiane – with a dragon tattoo curving down her back, a pink belly-button ring, turquoise eye-shadow and the bare essentials covering everything else – adds: “I can say in English: ‘Hello baby, want something tasty?’. And ‘Let me show you a good time. I can do it real nice for you’.”
The married mum-of-two, works every Friday, Sunday and Monday from three in the afternoon until nine the next morning.
She claims she usually sees between 15 to 20 clients a night and charges the usual £16 for half-an-hour. She takes clients up an iron spiral staircase at the back of the bar she operates from, and into a cell-like room with a single bed, a stool and dustbin.
Tatiane’s unsuspecting husband thinks she works as a high class bar manager.
She admits: “He would kill me if he found out. The trouble is I really like doing this.
"It’s easy money. I reckon I can get nearly £10,000 with the World Cup tourists.
“And I’ll definitely be targeting the English men – I hear they really like us sexy Brazilian women.”

WHO IS THE OFFICIAL CLOTH DESIGNER FOR THE BLACKS?

For some time now, there has been some confusion in the minds of people over which Ghanaian designer is the ‘official clothier’ for the Ghana Black Stars ( if indeed there is such a title). I think the confusion came after the footballers wore some lovely caftans to the Presidential Gala held by president Mahama to send off the Black Stars on their journey to Brazil. As previously reported by Ameyawdebrah.com, most of the footballers were clothed by Chocolate Kweku Bediako. The rest were from Acote Collections by Opoku Mensah David. Big Brother Africa star and fashion designer, Elikem Kumordzie took to social media to announce that he was the official designer for the Black Stars, because he has an arrangement to design off pitch attires for the footballers for later, in Brazil. His comment made people including some media to believe that the clothing from the presidential gala were his creations. A case of miscommunication? Check out the official statement from Acote Collection on the confusion. To Spectator and Ghanasoccernet.com – Over the last few days, attempts by some media men and their clothing designer friend to claim the praise for the bespoke, customised caftans worn by many members of the blackstars squad at a presidential ball with John Mahama before leaving for Brazil have made headline news in both the regular press and on blog sites over the internet. It is regrettable to see a recognised, state-owned newspaper like the “Weekly Spectator” which has churned out well researched stories and news to feed a discerning bunch of their patrons over a considerably long number of years to blunder gravely in last Saturday’s headline story on Elikem the tailor. The corresponding picture and caption were inaccurate as it portrayed Elikem as the designer of the Caftans worn by the stars. In the same vein, Ghanasoccernet, an online sports site over last few days published a similar story touting Elikem as the maker of the clothes that added the needed colour and finesse to that august event. In an industry where creativity is the mainstay, where sleepless nights are rampant just to meet deadlines, it is only fair and just to protect the works and creations of the players in their field of endeavour. The onus then lies on the designer firstly to patent his works. However, the greater responsibility of protecting these creative works should be on the mass media especially, as they have the power and machinery to promote only after doing due diligence to fully authenticate their stories and promo messages. Acote collections by Opoku Mensah David and Chocolate by Kweku Bediako were the designers of those ravishing clothes for the stars at the presidential ball. These young entrepreneurs championing the made in Ghana agenda can only be supported and not sabotaged. Their joint plea is simple; Elikem and the media houses promoting this anomaly must set the record straight and give praise where it’s due. Source: Ameyawdebrah.com

Samini DID NOT WIN any award – Carrier of information apologizes to HIM

It has emerged Samini did not win the award for BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT at the Black Canadians Awards held in Canada last weekend, contrary to an earlier report.
Saminis’ team had relied on series of press publications on the subject, and came to the conclusion that their act had won.
However further checks reveal the award went to Trinidad and Tobagao’s Destra Garcia. The category also had Nigeria’s Waje, South Africa’s Lira and Khuli Chana as well as as the Bajan female Soca act Alsion Hinds as contenders.
One, Julz of GhanaMixtapes, who was at the event and had relayed the information to the press, has since taken to Twitter to apologize to Samini.
Samini has accepted his apology, saying “blunders do happen.” “Maybe i should have waited to see confirmation on the BCA site.”
The earlier statement we published from Samini’s camp in the morning read:
The African Dancehall King SAMINI, wins another International Award, this time; “BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT” at the Black Canadians Awards held on the 7th of June at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto, Canada . He was in the same category with Allison Hinds, Khuli Chana Waje, Destra Garcia and others.

Award-winning Samini continues to show cause for why He believes in African Dancehall Music and making Ghana Proud, while the international community and brands keep recognising Him for such great strides in promoting Good African Dancehall music.

This is another feat in a week where Samini gears up to Launch His Lounge and Restaurant- “DanceStardom” and surely, it will be one big party/celebration this Friday.

Thanks to all fans and everyone who contributed to Samini winning this award. #GH #DanceStardom launches on June 13th with the mega celebration. HighGradeFamily……..#AkyeSaaaa

Mafikizolo and Davido won two awards each including artist of the year for Davido and Song of the year for Mafikizolo. Marlon Wayans played host to the gala event that saw international artists including Miguel, Trey Songz and French Montana wow the audience with electrifying performances. Lupita Nyong’o gave her acceptance speech of the award for Personality of the Year with a personal video clip. He charmed the audience with video clips of himself portraying a clueless American reporter who stereotyped African talent during staged interviews, which were interspersed throughout the event. As the show progressed, so did Wayans’ knowledge of Africa, providing a funny, yet cultural touch to the event. Created by African urban music and youth entertainment channel, MTV Base, the MAMA awards recognize youth culture, music and achievers of sub-Saharan Africa, rewarding achievement In 18 different categories, including music (15) and Iife style (3). Ribery out of the World Cup

France have announced that Bayern Munich attacker Franck Ribery will not feature at this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The 31-year-old winger has been toiling with a back problem in recent weeks, and Didier Deschamps, the head coach of Les Bleus, confirmed during a press conference on Friday afternoon that the Ballon d’Or nominee’s situation has worsened.
“This morning Ribery stopped during a run. Now, he cannot train,” Deschamps explained. “Tests have confirmed a worsening of the situation. He cannot play.”
Ribery’s injury was the second blow that France would suffer on Friday, as Clement Grenier aggravated a thigh problem, which had plagued him in the latter part of the season, leading to the Olympique Lyonnais playmaker also withdrawing from the squad.
Deschamps revealed that he has already called up two replacements in the form of Montpellier’s Remy Cabella and Southampton’s uncapped Morgan Schneiderlin.
The loss of Ribery, however, will be seen as a significant blow to France’s hopes of World Cup success, as the 2006 runner-up was their most experienced player available with 81 appearances. Antoine Griezmann of Real Sociedad is widely expected to take his place in Deschamps’ starting XI.

Elba arrived in Ghana for the production entitled, ‘Beasts of No Nation,’ more than a week ago.

Directed by Cary Funkunaga, ‘Beasts of No Nation’ is a film adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala’s 2005 novel that takes its title from the 1989 album – ‘Beats of No Nation' – by Fela Ransome Kuti, the late Nigerian Afro beat artiste.

Iweala’s book tells the story of Agu, a child soldier in an unnamed West African country. Elba according to reports is playing the Commandant – the ruthless head of the guerrilla group – that forces Agu to join their ranks.

The movie is expected to be Elba’s next big production in Africa, after playing Nelson Mandela in ‘Long walk to Freedom’.

Veteran Ghanaian movie stars, David Dontoh and Grace Nortey, were spotted on set at a location in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Ama K. a onetime Africa Movie Award best actress, according to News-One sources, was also in there, playing the mother of Agu in the Movie.

What is not clear is the identity of the boy who would play Agu.

JUJU! Akaminko’s brother speaks – Person responsible to be stripped naked in a week’s TIME

The family of Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko claim they are close to unravelling the mystery surrounding the bewildering injury of the 26-year old, insisting the injury was as a result of spiritual machinations.
Elder brother of the former Lions defender who doubles as the family head told Kumasi-based Angel FM that a spiritual connection to Akaminko’s injury cannot be disputed as a series of investigation conducted after the injury is very damning and revealing.

Spokesperson of the family and godfather of the Ekisehirspor center-back, whose name was name was given as Ceaser says he can confirm the use of Black Power ‘juju’ in the camp of the national team because he has been privy to information of such occurrences.
The Turkish-based defender suffered an ankle injury which ruled him out of the 2014 World Cup in the friendly defeat to the Netherlands over the weekend.
Akaminko has worked extremely hard all-season-long at Ekisehirspor, helping the Turkish side to secure a respectable position amidst scoring important goals for the side earning him a return to the Black Stars after an extensive snub after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
“My sister spoke to the media after the injury and she spoke very diplomatic, and as a woman, I cannot begrudge her”, Albert Akaminko told Angel FM.
“There is an issue between him (Akaminko) and somebody in and around the team who threatened Jerry that he will play the World Cup for all to see”.
“You know there was an issue with Akaminko’s jersey prior to the Egypt match in Kumasi and it took the intervention of the family at the Golden Tulip Hotel to solve it and a whole lot has happened after that and so nobody can say that he (Akaminko) got injured just like that”.
“We are conducting both physical and spiritual investigations into the matter and I have called my dada in the Volta Region so we are working on it and I can assure you that in a week’s time, we will all know the outcome, we will strip the devil in this naked”.
The 26-year-old is set to undergo surgery in New York and will be on the sidelines for at least three months.
